Tips For Better Search Engine Positioning

Using these tips will help increase your web sites positioning.

META TAGS

For most search engines, META TAGS are the most important information for gaining top positioning. META TAGS supply search engines with valuable information to help them place your site. They are not displayed on your web site, they are hidden in the html. There are 3 major forms of META TAGS.

1. Title Tag

The title is most often the most important META TAG, as it is used first by most search engines. The Title tag is used to Name your web site. Use a very descriptive title. Use words that you think others will use when searching for a page like yours. For example if your company is called Smith Supply and you sell Pens, you should be sure to use words like pens, pencils, markers, etc. Many people just put Smith Supply in the title and the problem is that most people searching for your page will not know your name, they will know that they are looking for pens. Be sure to keep the Title tag brief.

Below is an example of how a title tag should look.

<title>Quality mailing lists at rock bottom prices - USA & Canadian opportunity seekers names</title>

2. Description Tag

The description tag is used for just that, to give your web sites description. This can be longer than and more detailed than a title, usually around 200 characters. Remember these words are used to help determine your search results, so don't just add 2 words like pen sales. Give a good detailed description.

Below is an example of how your Meta Tags should look after you add the Description Tag.

<meta name="description"

content="Get the most from your money-making offers by mailing them to our fresh, responsive list of opportunity buyers. All have recently spent $$$ on money-making information. They are proven mail order BUYERS, not just lookers.">

3. Keywords Tag

This Meta Tag is used to supply words or phrases which pertain to your web pages content. Separate the words or phrases by commas. Be sure to use enough keywords to cover all the words and phrases that pertain to your page.

Below is an example of how your Meta Tags should look after you add the Keywords Tag.

<meta name="keywords"

content="mailing lists, usa opportunity seekers, Canadian opportunity seekers, peel & stick labels, mail-order, mail list, direct mail">

OTHER TIPS

1. Use plurals

Use plurals for as many words as you can. For example if you were going to use the word "pen", use the plural "pens". This way if someone searches for the plural it will still be found on your Meta Tag. However, if they only search for the word pen, it will still be found on your Meta Tags.

2. Repeating words

Most search engines give a score based on the number of times it finds words on your page or Meta Tag. They also may ban sites that deliberately overuse and repeat words for the sole purpose of getting better position. If you choose to repeat words to help better your position, do it in a non spamming way. For example: pens for sale, fine point pens, medium pens, red pen, etc. Warning: Do not use any word more than 6 times in your title and description. You could be penalized!

3. Re-Submitting

As time goes by, your site will either drop down in positioning, and on many sites will even be deleted after a given period of time. To keep your listings fresh, it is advised that you have your site resubmitted every 4-6 weeks and submit as many pages of your web site as you can.
